Fight Night at Los Angeles Wrigley Field

Joe Louis, Sugar Ray Robinson and Floyd Patterson were among scores of world-class fighters headlining featured bouts at Wrigley Field from the 1030s through the 1950s.  The final world heavyweight title fight at Wrigley occured on August 18, 1958, the summer after the PCL Angels franchise had moved to Spokane and the Dodgers were playing in the Coliseum.  Patterson retained his crown with a 13th-round TKO over Roy Harris.  Western Union was busy that night, reporting the largest number of working machines ever for a sporting event in Los Angeles.
