Product Description

WRIGLEY FIELD

2010-19

'There used to be a ballpark here'

Neighborhood kids Stanley Evans and Kenneth Thompson are just "hanging out" as Wrigley Field is being demolished on the afternoon of March 21, 1969. They're seated in what remains of the brick (and sometimes ivy-covered) wall in left-centerfield. Wrigley Field opened in September in 1925 and was home to the Angels of the Pacific Coast League through 1957 and the American League expansion Angels in 1961. Visible is Wrigley's office tower, dedicated in 1926 to the memory of ballplayers killed in World War I. The ballpark was replaced by a public recreation center, community mental health and senior citizens' center.

Unused (3 1/2" x 5 1/2") postcard. Photo by Cal Montney, Los Angeles times. Image archived at the Department of Special Collections, Charles E. Young Research Library, UCLA.

Produced by Vic Pallos, Glendale, CA

Very limited edition, only 4 postcards printed.
