SEC TAYLOR STADIUM

Des Moines, Iowa

Opened in 1947 and originally called Pioneer Memorial Stadium, the ballpark was renamed in 1959 for longtime Des Moines Register sports editor Garner W. "Sec" Taylor.  It served as home of the Des Moines Bruins of the Class A Western League, followed by the Des Moines Demons Class B Three-I League.  The triple-A Iowa Oaks of the American Association played here beginning in 1969.  By the late 1980s the stadium was deteriorating, leading to construction of a new ballpark on this site in 1992.  The popular Taylor name was retained, eventually becoming Sec Taylor Field at Principal Park.  Currently, the park is home of the Iowa Cubs of the Pacific Coast League.
