Product Description

TIM McCARVER STADIUM

2010-09

Constructed on the Mid-South Fairgrounds near the Liberty Bowl, this ballpark opened in 1968 and had the distinction of hosting four different leagues; Texas, International, Southern and Pacific Coast. It was Blues Stadium originally and renamed for major league catcher 9and Memphis born) Tim McCarver in the late 70s. It's longest tenant was the Chicks (short for Chickasaws) of the Southern league, 1978-97. The PCL Redbirds closed out pro baseball in this aging venue in 1998-99. A new stadium (now Autozone Park) opened downtown the following season. Capacity at Tim McCarver Stadium was 8,800. The infield was artificial turf and the outfield real grass. For a while the park remained active for high school and semi-pro teams. It was demolished in 2005.
