TARGET FIELD & MINNEAPOLIS SKYLINE

Home of the Minnesota Twins

Remnants of a late afternoon summer storm give way to a setting sun's radiant glow illuminating the Minneapolis skyline.  In the foreground, the Twins are hosting the Oakland Athletics on August 14, 2010.  Few fans among the capacity crowd likely remember this date is the 65th anniversary of VJ Day, when victory over Japan was celebrated, ending World War II in the Pacific.  More than six decades later, the Twins have been doing some celebrating of their own, opening their new ballpark and vying for the American League's Central Division crown.  In this game, Twins pitcher Brian Duensing went the distance, allowing only three hits as the Twins prevailed, 2-0.  All-Star catcher Joe Mauer went 3 for 4, with RBIs by Mauer and Orlando Hudson.  Target Field, which debuted in April, is the Twins third home.  It was preceded by Metropolitan Stadium, 1961-81, and the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome, 1982-2009.
