RUBBER BOWL

P334257

University of Akron (NCAA) (1940-2008) Dallas Texans (NFL) (1952)

The Rubber Bowl is a stadium in Akron, Ohio primarily used for American football. From 1940 to 2008, it served as the home field of the University of Akron's Zips football team. Today, it is occasionally used for high school football.

The Rubber Bowl has hosted 324 Akron Zips football games, 19 preseason Cleveland Browns’ games, a regular-season NFL game, over 1,500 high school games, soccer matches, concerts and shows.

NOVEMBER 27, 1952: In a "home" Thanksgiving Day game for the NFL's Dallas Texans, which was taken over by the league after ownership fell apart, the Texans earned a 27-23 upset victory against the George Halas-coached Chicago Bears, who had started their entire second-string team because Halas was confident of winning. It would be the Texans' only win in their franchise history.
