Polo Grounds
New York City
Bobby Thompson's pennant-winning 1951 "shot heard 'round the world" landed in the lower deck just to the right of this foul pole at the Polo Grounds. Home plate down the left field chalk measured only 279 feet high. The overhang of the second deck actually created a shorter home run distance for right-handed pull hitters. However, as the grandstand angled toward center field, home run distances were extreme, up to 455 feet, frustrating many sluggers.
