1921 - Home of the New York Giants and Yankees
This postcard is reproduced from an actual photograph. On the back of the photo is written: "Babe Ruth 8/6/21. Two men on bases. Oh boy, he put a home run into the bleachers." It was one of the Babe's 59 homers in 1921. He also drove in 171 runs and hit .378 in one of the best seasons of his impressive career. On this day the Yankees lost 9-8 to Detroit, but they went on to win the American League. Meanwhile, the Giants captured the National League pennant, so for the first time all World Series games were played in the same ballpark. The Yankees were still two years away from opening their new stadium in the Bronx across the Harlem River.
Unused 3 1/2" x 5 1/2" postcard from a photo from the collection of Ray Medeiros, Colorado Springs, CO.
