Ballpark Nostalgia Postcard

EXHIBITION STADIUM

Toronto, Ontario, Canada

The American League expansion Blue Jays played here from 1977-89.  Previously, this was the site of the Canadian National Exhibition and home of the CFL Argonauts since 1959.  Fitting a baseball diamond into a rectangular space like a football field is awkward.  The ballpark's configuration isn't remembered as a classic, however, once past this detail, fans said that Exhibition Stadium was a fun place to watch their Jays improve from losing 318 games in the first three seasons to becoming a league power.  Blue Jays blue was the color of all seating, which was close to the action and accommodated 43,737 for baseball.  The park's location near Lake Ontario was windy and cold.  Ice and snow in April were common.  Hundreds of seagulls sometimes invaded after games, like scenes from "The Birds."

Unused 3 1/2" x 5 1/2" standard size postcard from a photo from Chris Nichol, Minneapolis, MN.
