Boardwalk Hall played host to the ECHL Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies ice hockey team from 2001-2005.

In 2001, the franchise played its inaugural season in Atlantic City after relocating from Birmingham, Alabama, where it was known as the Birmingham Bulls. In 2003, the team won the Kelly Cup, beating the Columbia Inferno in the finals.

On February 3, 2005, it was announced that the franchise was sold to an ownership group that relocated the team to Stockton, California, for the 2005-06 season, and renamed it the Stockton Thunder.
