Product Description

BLUES STADIUM

2010-41

This site was Muehlebach Field (1923-37), then Ruppert Stadium (1938-42) and Blues Stadium (1943-54) before being rennovated and enlarged to house the transplanted Philadelphia Athletics beginning in 1955. (This photo was taken when the American Associations's Blues played here.)  Located in a black section of town, it accommodated the city's white & black teams, including the Monarchs who often won the Negro American League championship.  Monarchs games were big events.  People wore their finery to the ballpark - men in suits, patent leather shoes and straw hats, and women in furs and hats.

Unused 3 1/2" x 5 1/2" standard size postcard from a photo from the files of The Sporting News and made available by the John Rogers Archive.

Very limited edition (6 postcards) produced of this image.  Written and designed by Vic Pallos, Glendale, CA.
