ATWOOD STADIUM
3C-K1494
Atwood Stadium is an 11,000-seat stadium located in Flint, Michigan. It opened on June 8, 1929 and was named after Edwin W. Atwood who donated a portion of the site for the stadium. It has hosted high school football, minor-league baseball, and concerts over the years. Atwood still hosts high school football games today.
Atwood Stadium is probably most famous for hosting the old Central League Flint Arrows baseball club from 1948-1951. The Central League was a minor league baseball league that operated sporadically from 1903-1917, 1920-1922, 1926, 1928-1930, 1934, and 1948-1951.
Recent discussions have surfaced involving a possible NCAA athletics program for the University of Michigan-Flint. If the athletics department was created, and a football program, Atwood Stadium would be the most likely home for such a team. For 2009, the University of Michigan-Flint Club Football team will play all home games at Atwood Stadium.
