TIGER STADIUM
Formerly Navin Field, 1912-37; Briggs Stadium 1938-60
April 9 1974 - More than 44,000 fans are huddled in their seats on a 38-degrees opening day as the Tigers host the Yankees. It's the bottom of the fourth inning, Norm Cash is batting against starter Steve Kline. This will be a disappointing afternoon for the home crowd as the Tigers are shut out, 3-0. Lou Piniella goes 2 for 3, with 2 RBI to pace the victory. Despite spirited efforts to preserve the historic stadium, the final out occurred on Sept. 27, 1999, closing out 87 years as a beloved city landmark.
