National Park / Griffith Stadium (2010-25)

Product Description

National Park/Griffith Stadium

Washington, D.C.

In 1912 Clark Griffith, one of the founders of the American League, assumed control of the Washington Nationals.  Just one season prior, the park's main grandstand (shown here) was reconstructed between first and third base following a fire.  The team was in financial trouble, so hiring a four-legged groundskeeper to keep the grass trimmed was a welcome savings.  By 1920, a double-decked, covered grandstand was built and extended to both foul poles.

Unused 3 1/2" x 5 1/2" standard size postcard from a photo c1913 from the late Ben Jacobson Collection, Long Island, NY.

Produced by Vic Pallos, Glendale, California

Limited production of only six postcards.....with only two of the six being auctioned!
