Ballpark Nostalgia Postcard

Home of the Minnesota Twins, 1982-2009

After 28 season indoors, the Twins once again will brave the elements in the new (domeless) Target Field beginning in 2010. From 1961-1981 the Minnesota nine played in Metropolitan Stadium, originally home to the Class AAA Millers, now the site of Mall of America. Named for the late U.S. Senator, a Minnesotan who rooted enthusiastically for the Twins and Vikings, the Metrodome likely won't be missed in the nice weather. However, spring and fall weather in the Twin Cities can be brutal, as those who recall icy cold and howling wind at The Met. Two "final" games were played at the Metrodome in 2009: a regular season playoff win, 6-5, in 12 innings over the Detoit Tigers on Oct. 6, when 54,088 fans crowded in, followed by a 4-1 defeat to the Yankees in the AL Division Series on Oct. 11.
