AMERICAN LEAGUE / HILLTOP / HIGHLANDERS BALL PARK
2009-16
Home of the New York Highlanders (future Yankees), 1903-12 & New York Giants, 1911
It's unlikely that "dressed to the nines" had any relation to the formal manner guest were attired in the old days to watch baseball. However, the folks waiting to enter New York's Hilltop Park in about 1910 certainly could qualify. Depending on the source and at what point in its existance, this vintage ballpark overlooking the Hudson River was known by three different names. Whatever the name, it was far from the grandest of "green cathedrals." It was constructed of wood and masonry and had few if any memorable architectural features. Seating capacity was about 16,000, including 1,500 25-cent seats.
