Product Description

BRAVES FIELD

No# (vertical pub. credits)

Home of the Boston Braves 1915-52

During its existance, Braves Field had numerous uses.  Among them was as home football field for nearby Boston University.  This arrangement began in 1921 and continued following the Braves' move to Milwaukee for the 1953 season.  In this 1958 photo, note the absence of the famous Jury Box that used to be located behind the right field fence, and a large grandstand section beyond third base.  In 1960 the stadium was reconfigured totally for football.  Its first pro team was the Boston Patriots of the new American Football League.  Today, a portion of the grandstands along the first base line remain, and the venue is called Nickerson Field, home to several of BU's sports teams.  The original Braves Field entrance has been preserved and is seen at the far left-center of this photo.

Unused (4" x 7 5/8") sepia view postcard of Opening Day, 1930..
